Walking in this World week 2

I walked every day with Lily the dog. The birds are singing in the mornings and the tiny tips of the tulips are just starting to poke through the earth--Spring may come afterall. We went to the dog park on Saturday, yes it was cold and muddy, but it was so uplifting to watch the joyful expressions on the dogs' faces as they chased each other around. It helped me forget the gossip, drama and stress at work, which provided most of the fodder for my "evening" pages. I missed my artist's date this week, so maybe two next week?

Heroes and Villains

I finished these two very interesting books this week.It made me wonder why some people turn out to be heroes, while others become villians. I thought I knew all about Benedict Arnold. Benedict Arnold=Traitor during the American Reveloution, right? Turns out that at the beginning of the war Arnold was considered to be a popular commander and a brilliant soldier. His invasion of Canada and his daring at the Battle of Saratoga saved Washington and allowed the Revolution to continue. Yet his own huge ego, the need for money and all sorts of slights, real and imagined led him to betray his county.
Louis Zamperini was also impetuous, had a huge ego and was in trouble with the law. Yet, he survied unimaginable cruelty and suffering at the hands of his captors during World War II. After a lost period of drinking to erase his terrible nightmares, he found God and became a respected member of society.
Two facinating men, two very different lives.

Artist's Date

Had a fantasitc Artist's Date today to The Paper Source. They have the most beautiful selction of handmade papers, as well as stationary, stamps, embellshments-you name it. It is also an extremely dangerous place because you simply have to have all these beautiful things. We were pretty good and only bought some ink and embossing powder. The "bridal powder" creates a lovely pale sparkle effect. Can't wait to play...

Walking in This World

It's March 1 and almost spring. I'm joining Kristin at Journaling Saves for a creative jump start. We will be using the book "Walking in This World" by Julia Cameron. I checked my copy out at the local library.
The walking part will be easy. Dog=multiple walks.
Today was a great day for a walk. First of all I had the day off, so we could walk in the sunlight. Secondly it was around 45 which felt positively spring like after our recent snow storm. And most of the snow is melted so I didn't have to wear boots!
Now I have to turn off the voices-internal and external- that tell me I do not have a creative bone in my body. I've got to turn off the perfectionist gene which tells me unless I'm going to be an award winning novelist or painter it's not worth it. I'm channelling my inner child to enjoy the process not the product.
So let the creative process begin....
